GENEVIEVE LEON
What’s your name?
Genevieve Leon.
Hometown?
Bethesda, MD.
What do you do for a living?
Editor for
NARS Cosmetics
.
Campaign concepting, shade naming, storytelling, and every branding moment in between. Every day brings something new and exciting. It’s about creating an experience; sharing a point of view that surprises, delights, maybe even provokes.
What kind of perfumes do you typically go for?
Rich, smoky, resin-y characters.
What’s your earliest memory of perfume?
A scorched and slightly sweaty Must de Cartier. My Mom wore it to dinner after a day on the dunes at Hilton Head Island. Like the beach town in the late ’80s, it was old school and glamorous in a put-on kind of way. She would keep it in its box, take it out when she was getting ready to go out, and tuck it away again after a few spritzes on the wrist.
What perfume did you wear at age 13?
Gap Dream!
What perfume did you wear at age 16?
The Body Shop’s White Musk, head-to-toe and probably even on my love notes.
What perfume did you wear at age 22?
Bvlgari Omnia. The perfume equivalent of the velvet blazer I wore with everything.
What perfume did you wear at age 30?
Amouage Interlude for Men. It’s more interesting to me than the women’s version. Smoke, leather, honey, sage—a proper 30
th
birthday gift to myself.
Other than NOVA, what do you wear now?
Le Labo’s Poivre 23. It’s kind of like their Patchouli 24, but with less of the moonshine-at-a-bonfire thing going on.
Favorite comfort smells?
Coffee from the next room. The first sip of red wine. Fall in New York.
What did your home growing up smell like?
Picadillo, a sweet and savory Cuban ground beef dish served over garlicky rice.
What’s your sign?
Half Leo, half Virgo (cusp baby).
